Hi, i try it cause now i have an issue, i short the GPIO for z min endstop, and now this one is dead… it is allways in hit state. I want now to use z max port as z min, anyone knows how to manage, or i have to go for another board ?

So I abandoned my build for about a year because life got in the way….

My bbp1s is wired to the printer, with LCD cape, and i can connect to the printer via WiFi, I think I'm logged in to octoprint - it doesn't show connected to the printer, but I don't have any error codes so I think i logged in correctly from my old notes.

But…

I can't seem to get octoprint to really do anything. Options?

I was thinking of just flashing the firmware but have a question: can I just jump right to the last version,. 0.98, I think, or do I need to reload 0.90, and then all the patches, etc up to the final one?

What about my password? Technically didn't get an error, so I think its right, is there a way to just start over?

Updating the firmware unable to select file window

This was a silly mistake by me but only found after I examined the HTML code when pressing clicking the button on the firmware update screen. Basically, that button has a check to see if Octoprint is connected and talking to the actual motion control firmware portion. If you fail to hit connect on the main screen, what happens is clicking on the settings, then firmware, update page, then update firmware button does nothing and gives you no error message.

If you properly connect first, then it allows the button to open a window where you select the file.

Hope this simple tip helps others.

Problem with Autobed Levelling and proximityy sensor

Hi,
I have a BBP 1S with a LCD cape.
I'm using a MK3 ALU heatbed and a Autonics PSN17-8DNU (NPN) Sensor for Autobed leveling.
I have connected the sensor just as you mentioned in FAN #6, the auto bed leveling works perfectly, but the moment i start a print, after the nozzle heats up, the printer does try to print the curves correctly, but it looks as if the X and Y axes keep shifting to the negative side and the toolhead finally bashes into the walls.

To Solve this, i thought its the triggered sensor while printing causing the problem.So i after running G29 i removed the supply to the sensor and now it prints perfectly.But i have to connect the sensor and disconnect before every print.
I also tried adding G31 and G32 to the start gcode but it dosent make a difference.

Please I stuck at this since a week.Anyhelp is greatly appretiated!

While I've been set back a bit by broken boards, in need of acquiring one of from others on the forum etc., I'm still planning on porting kernel stuff to 4.4 kernel, just a bit difficult issue at the moment…

None the less, I'm just about to head out and pick up the latest revision of Replicape: thing-printer. com/product/replicape/

Porting the unicorn software and other software parts to, should be an easier task to finish quickly, so hopefully people who's grown to rely on either their bbp boards or it's firmware, I'm planning on making sure that their current boards will still be of use and supported, while people buying a Replicape in stead, can still expect to find the same firmware functionality on this board as well.

Try to use invert endstop - now have a dead board

I was going to try to use the invert endstop to see if it would help with prints not printing right due to endstop being triggered while printer is running. I followed the directions, verified the resisters where removed (they were already not there), checked the X axis invert in Octoprint. I then tested the X axis and the board just rebooted (noticed the 3.3 volt LED dimmed). I checked everything again and tried to test again, same results. The next morning the board was off. I pushed the power button and all I got was a flash on the 5V led. I was at one time to get the board to boot if I shorted out the X axis endstop (the invert endstop pins) but after awhile it shut down. So now it does not boot and I have a dead board. I guess off to a different controller board. Just wanted to worn people of a possible issue, board worked before all this.

Failing to flash after accidental reflash

Hi there,

I tried to get my BBP+ to the newest version.
After flashing 0.97 on the board (which worked fine), I accidentally flashed it again as I put in the flash SD card and not my data SD card. Now the system boots up and the led does a fast double blink every 0.5 sec maybe. I can ping the system with the old IP but nothing else.
I already tried to reflash it again and failed. The flash looks normal, but after reboot nothing changes, still the fast double blink.
I downloaded the image again and used a different SD card, nothing changes.

Please help.

Homing and Inverting Axes

Hi,

so i have connected my CoreXY Printer with an Z-Axis-Table.
On the LCD i see Arrows for Z-Axis to move up and down. But in the Wiki it speaks from Move Extruder up and down not the table… for an Delta is okay. But an CoreXY use the Table to go down.

So normaly i see on the LCD an Arrow down.. when i press it i think the table has to go down. So i have two ways to invert the rotation of the steppers. By Setup an by wire.

But if i press homing the Table goes down… » think is good idea.. because if i have an model print and press homing i get no crash. But in this case the minZ Limit Switch is on the bottom of the printer.. so if the table comes down it reached the endstop and hit the limit switch.

Is this correct way or if i want to print an model.. the table move up for each layer instead of move down each layer?

I can't find any information what is the normal setup for the BBP1S.

The next Problem for the XY-Axis… what is the normal setup and where are the Zero-Point?

If i invert the wires so the LCD Arrows are correct and homing is also in the direction i want… then i will say the printing is in the opposite direction?

But on Z-Axis printing in opposite direction is wrong.. the table will go up instead of down.

So normaly when i press homing of Z-Axis table goes down. When i start print the table goes up with an offset to the Extruder and then Autobed-Leveling beginns. After that it have an Offset 0,1mm under the Nozzle and beginns printing each layer and table move down each layer. After printing the table goes down to endstop.

So i don't find any information about the direction of homing and printing of the axes.

Can somewhere explain?

Endstops and the issue of open Switch

Hi,

i play around with the configuration and find out the invert the Limit Switch function.. but it looks like there is only to have an Low Active or and High Active by inverting in Setup and change GPIO+GND to GPIO+3.3V.

So normaly milling machines and all other machines use not open switch and by homing the switch will be closed.

For the safety you have to use the inverted logical limit switch. So the Switch is closed all the time and by homing reach the endstop the switch will be open.

This ist the right way, because an broken wire or Switch stop the machine and in other case.. if the wire or Switch is broken, the machine have an collision…

So on what point of the Firmware i can invert the logical function of the limit switch?
Then is it better to use the Low-Active? My Board don't have the resistors.. because is the default. So i use GPIO and 3,3V connect to the Switch.

So i want to solder this to the normal closed limit switch connectors and then switch the logical function.
Means an closed limit switch minX is not hit! If the Switch is open , Limit Switch MinX is hit!

Dual Z on COREXY

Want to confirm no settings are needed in octoprint for this on firmware v0.98, and just need to connect second motor to 'User' motor port. I assume Z drive signals are mirrored to the User port by default? I also assume I will need to set the same steps/mm and motor current settings used for Z on the User port?

Hi, I've been printing at 50mm/s, and everything works perfectly, but now I'm trying with higher speeds and I found that the first 10mm more or less, the movements are abrupt and you can noticed that in the print quality. How to connect mosfet to HBP exit

Hi, I need to connect a mosfet to the HBP connector on the bbp1s to drive a bigger HBP. I have a IRFZ44n. What do I need to make it work? I coonected the gate tho the HBP connector, drain to the HBP, +12v to the HBP and source to ground.
I need to mention I have 0 experience on mosfets.
But It seems to be saturated all the time, and when I turn the HBP off, it continue to be saturated. I tried on both connectors of the bbp.
Any help?

This is how I got it to work as the readme file in here is crap for compiling

Before starting I had to install these programs.
Install them as root, using "su" command.

apt-remove git
apt-get install git
apt-get install make
apt-get install gcc
apt-get install u-boot-tools

After you have made the directories according to the readme file you can use this command
to copy the extracted files into the newly made directories

sudo nautilus used to open file manager as root to copy files
Copy files to root/fastbot

After you used git to get repository you need to make two changes to build.sh as that file contains errors.

change build.sh
-remove extra dash at firmware (line 110)
-remoce extra dash at && (line 242)

before executing ./build.sh init you need to excute git init

./build.sh init executed in tools folder

BUT!!

I dont know what to do next.. How do I upload the created files to bbp?

cooling fan not coming on

Has anyone else had trouble getting the cooling fan to work? If I send M106 manually I can force it on full blast, but the gcode from Simplify3d doesn't work. Its format is M106 S$ where $ is the speed in percent. Even altering the settings from standard Marlin firmware so it just sends M106 does not work. Any ideas?

I am developing a big 3D machine so i hoped the bbp 1s can have to.
I used: SUMTOR 57HS11230A4 motor, M542 - DSP step drive. Linear motion guide using ball screw D16.

I tried to config in slicer with print speed is 200 mm/s. Printer max speed configed also. But it print with very low speed actual.

I have questions:
- do have any limitation on bbp board? Can i change this and how?
- i derise can reach 500mm/s print speed. What can i do.

Can't get the LAN to work!

Initially i could connect through the LAN connector using IP 192.168.1.111
But now i get timeout all the time!
I can only connect using the USB and IP 192.168.7.2

I have tried the manually IP setup: 192.168.1.11 and netmask 255.255.255.0 and gateway 192.168.1.1
And i have tried the automatic DHCP configuration.
I have tried to reinstall both Debian and Android firmware.

My LAN network do have a password, but i can't figure out where i can enter it.

Okay, wondering if anyone can help out with this. I have been playing with the accel and jerk settings but just can't get it to move smoothly like it did on the old control board. It doesn't help that I'm not sure what all the different settings actually do (max accel for instance).

Here's a video of how it's moving. Notice it will go really slowly for a sec, then fast, then slow right down again. Needless to say the final print did not look good at all.

So I am putting in 24vdc but the max I am getting out from the heat bed transistor is 10vdc with no load. Is this to be expected due to it being a pwn signal? I am considering going to a solid state relay so I can get the whole 24vdc on the heat bed. What do you think?

I have an assignment to develop a system which the customer's engineering team has already selected the BBP board ( -1S variant ) to act as the mainboard. To be honest, I had never heard about this product up to now, and I'm quite curious to start learning more whilst I have not yet the BBP in hand to code there. However, I could not find anywhere a beginner's guide showing in details how the whole system works ( For instance, I don't know how commands are sent to board, protocols, etc.. ).

I'm sorry if the question seems too trivial, I'm plenty aware that perhaps I will find it soon by myself, but I wasn't able to do that so far.

After a month of working with the BBP1S I've come to the conclusion that it is garbage.

The problems are never ending, the support is non-existent. My original (cheap) Anet board prints better and is more consistent than this board.

If you're looking for a better board for your printer, you won't find it here.

Pause or cancels crash firmware

Hi, no matter what I do, pause or cancel function makes the board unresponsive. If I'm lucky, and after a minute or so, I can disconnect and reconnect. But most of the time, the connection to the firmware is lost. I'm on Debian 0.98. In that state motors on or off buttons won't help either. It's the only bug I found, but a very annoying one. Since I have to reset the board every time.

Not sure if this counts as a bug, but after flashing the latest Android update I tried to home the printer and nothing happend on the Y axis. I discovered I can manually move the motor in the + direction but not -. If I swap a new motor, it has the same problem. Plug the motor into x axis plug and it works as normal.

Any suggestions? I have googled the issue but all I can get is something isn't 'talking' to the driver properly. I have also tried reflashing the firmware with no luck.

Edit: apparently this is a classic failure mode for the stepper driver, not a bug. Please close.

My board no longer wants to boot from either sd or onboard emmc.

When turning it on, 3V3, PWR & 5V leds are all blue, but there's no other activity, neither on LCD display, TTL serial console or usb OTG.

The only thing it reacts to is turning it on and off using the pwr button…

I'm running out of options to try before declaring it dead, but I haven't seen anyone reporting or describing this behaviour with board declared dead on, so I have some hope left…

Any suggestions?

Well Yesterday All was well did 6 prints very well.
Today turned it on booted it up connected via network. i looked at the touch screen it was blank.
shut it down via the shutdown in the octoprint menu (have been doing this after the last one died), turned off power turned it back on and nothing,
back to the blue light flashing when i power on then nothing.
Last time this occurred i paid the postage for a new board, I have done 6 prints with it.
At least this answers one of my Questions in a previous post i left.
I think i will bow out of this advance in 3D printing until the the hardware is usable.
This has been an expensive test for me and i cant keep it up.
perhaps the problem has been with the touch screen all of the time but i will never know now.

Hi, I'm almost finished my printer and I'm doing tests to calibrate, but every time I cancel a print octoprint lose connection to firmware and I need to reset o power down the board to be able to reconnect again. This happens every time. Someone else have this problem, could you solve it?

Firmware crashing mid print

I've been trying to print a touchscreen bezel for my BBP.

All three times I have tried my printer has suddenly stopped mid print (not in the same place). The Octoprint web interface and the touchscreen still work but they are unable to connect to the firmware. Resetting the board has been the only way I've been able to get it back.

Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot this?

Hi!

While I originally started my work on 3.8.13 kernel, I recently switched to latest 4.4 from beagleboard tree as a lot more stuff was alread in place decreasing requirements for efforts on my part, with my currrent branch doing work against is 4.4.12-ti-rt-r30.pok1.

So far there's mainly just some compile fixes in there, most of backported from linus tree, then I've added a (currently somewhat bloated) arch/arm/configs/am335x-unicron_defconfig which is a configuration know to work.

Most of the work on bringing support for the board to recent kernel versions is revolving around migrating to device tree, which is a bit of a tedious task, especially for myself which despite of having solid experience and working professionally with distro development and pretty much all aspects revolving around and parts for long enough to consider myself a solid veteran, kernel hacking has still been that one part of the distro I've usually left to others.
So yeah, progress has been a bit slower than it otherwise would've been, but progress have been quite okay when taking things into consideration and pace is starting to pick up as well as I'm getting more and more insight on device tree and oversight over the whole situation.

My kernel tree branch is as said above 4.4.12-ti-rt-r30.pok1 and available from github. com/proyvind/linux-for-machinekit.

For u-boot repo tree of mine, I need to fix some stuff before it¨s working again, so please use the one from github. com/fastbot3d for now.

Also be sure to use am335x-unicron.dtb for FDT when booting.

I've also done some work on the drivers repo, but more work on kernel is required before any of those are likely to work yet, you'll find the trees I've forked from fastbot3d at github .com/proyvind .

Well, anyhow, I just figured that I'd drop a note about situation and present proof of activity before anymore proclamations about death of project is made. ;)

Also, as said in another post, I'll be setting up a development mailing list shortly dedicated to development as I don't find this forum suitable for such, especially not if others are interested in participating in development rather than just reading about it.

It's not much yet, but at least it's a bootable kernel with some of the board specific stuff working already, so I hope that it'll be appreciated for what it is (rather than criticized for what it's yet not..;).

CoreXY invert control is incorrect

I think CoreXY control inversion for an axis should invert both the X and Y motors for that axis.

If normal control in the X axis is for both motors to rotate clockwise in the positive X direction, then inverting X should make both motors rotate counter-clockwise instead of just one.
Similarly if normal control in the Y axis is for motor A to rotate clockwise and motor B to rotate counter-clockwise, then inverting Y should make motor A rotate counter-clockwise and motor B rotate clockwise.

Right now inverting one motor swaps axes so the Y-axis becomes the X-axis. Inverting both motors will invert both axes. So if you only need one axis flipped, there is no way to accomplish that right now.

The printer homes to the end stops but that positions the extruder off the bed.

I have replaced all leads with screened leads, all routed away from any other cables.
Today i printed 6 off 20 x 20 x 20 calibration cubes all printed OK no layer shifting, Got sizes very good.
Uploaded a stl of a J head holder, it got to layer 39 then shifted 7mm in the Y and 2mm in the X on layer 40.

When i attach 5v plug, 5v led falsh and nothing else, press power button do the same thing.
I have made a video, but i can publish link :(

And i notice that the lcd rubbon did really fit on the connector

Strange printing issues - Possible fix

Just wanted to share my issues and my fix. I have been having issues with my x,y not printing in the correct locations. The print starts fine but then it moves to far in direction (jumps to new location). What I found was that having my endstop wire running along with the stepper motor wire was causing interference on the endstop. As soon as I separated the 2 now I can print fine. I made a test gcode that would just move the X axis back and forth and before I separated the 2 it would start off fine then "jump" to a new location. Now with them separated my test gcode runs fine. I did the same test with the Y.

Ha Ha. Got the little thing to print. One off 20mm cube!!!!
Had to let it home then remove X Y and Z endstops. It printed.
During layer 96 out of 100 i reattached the X endstop ready for the end of the print, and the next layer i got a layer shift of about 5mm in X direction.
I haven't got it to repeat this yet, but at least i have some hope now.
Has any one got over the endstop issue yet???

system update not working for me

I downloaded the 0.97 image extracted it and ran a dd over to the sd card (connected via USB adapter to a Mac). I then placed the sd card into the board and started it up via the 5v USB adapter. I see three solid blue lights between the sd card slot and the min x end stop plug. There are no other lights. No one second blinking.

What do you think may be going wrong?
